15 PEOPLE INJURED WHEN TRAM COLLIDES WITH GUARDRAIL AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS THEME PARK NEAR LOS ANGELES

NEW DELHI: More than a dozen people suffered mostly minor injuries when a tram used for tours crashed into a railing at Universal Studios Hollywood near Los Angeles, authorities and the company said.

Fifteen people were injured when it crashed on a busy Saturday night. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said they got to the theme park around 9 pm after hearing about an accident.

"A tram tour was happening at Universal Studios Hollywood. The tram had just passed Jurassic Park Cars and was turning onto Avenue M when the last car hit a metal guardrail, making it tilt and throwing some passengers off," said the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"About fifteen passengers went to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries," they added.

The reason for the crash is still being looked into, but alcohol and drugs aren't thought to be involved.

On Sunday, Universal Studios Hollywood said, "A tram hit a guardrail while turning left. We're thinking of the guests involved, and we're glad the injuries weren't serious. We're working with public agencies like the California Highway Patrol to check what happened and keep everyone safe."

The Studio Tour, which takes visitors behind the scenes of famous Hollywood films, is one of Universal Studios' main attractions. Sets from movies like Jaws and Nope are part of the tour.

Next week, Universal Studios Hollywood will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Studio Tour, which started in 1964.
