JIOCINEMA WILL ANNOUNCE NEW SUBSCRIPTION PLAN ON APRIL 25, COULD START CHARGING FOR IPL

JioCinema, which is one of the most popular video streaming platforms, is preparing to launch a new subscription for users. In a tweet, the company announced the arrival of the new subscription with a video hinting that it will offer users an ad-free experience. With the launch of this plan, will the platform start charging people for the Indian Premier League (IPL)? Here is what we know so far.

JioCinema has released a short video on X (previously Twitter), which shows that people are tired of watching ads all the time in between videos. Well, this is true. Hence, it is now preparing to launch a new ad-free subscription on April 25. One of the ads also hinted at a family plan, but the company hasn't revealed any other details.

Since IPL matches have a lot of advertisements and the company is also gearing up to launch an ad-free plan, there are chances that JioCinema might start charging for watching IPL. Currently, the platform is letting people watch IPL for free, although people have to bear ads as well. But, this might change with the upcoming subscription because the plan aims to offer an ad-free subscription. Hence, one might be required to start paying for IPL as well.

As of now, nothing is officially confirmed yet and we will get clarity on this in the coming days. The rumour mill suggests that the new JioCinema plan could let people watch content in 4K and even download them.

Currently, JioCinema has two plans. There is a Rs 999 for yearly subscription and Rs 99 monthly pack. However, even after paying for them, these are not entirely ad-free, even if you are a premium user.

Besides, it was recently reported by Reuters that JioCinema has signed a deal with The Pokemon Company to boost kids' entertainment content on the streaming platform. This is JioCinema's latest deal to boost content on its platform to compete with rival streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar.

The deal was signed this month, making JioCinema's streaming app the exclusive India platform partner for more than 1,000 episodes and around 20 movies of the Japanese anime series, as per one of the sources quoted in the news agency's report.
