K-pop group SEVENTEEN turns 8 today. The 13-member group made its debut in 2015 on May 26 with the extended play (EP) 17 Carat, which became a huge hit amongst fans, almost immediately. It also earned SEVENTEEN a spot on the 10 best albums of the year list of Billboard. In total, including the recently released mini—album, FML, the group has released four studio albums, thirteen EPs and three reissues.
For those unaware, SEVENTEEN is divided into three units- the hip-hop unit which consists of leader S-Coups, Vernon, Wonwoo, Mingyu, vocal unit— Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK and Seungkwan and performance unit — Hoshi, Jun, The 8, Dino. In case if you are just entering the CARAT era and are confused about why the group is called SEVENTEEN, here's a break down. The group consists of 13 members + 3 units + 1 group = 17.
On their 8th anniversary, many members of the group took to Weverse to thank fans for their continuous support and promised to work even harder in future. "Time flies," the members reiterated in individual posts. From Jeonghan, S Coups, Mingyu, Woozi to The8, Jun and others, everyone acknowledged the love they receive from CARATS.
Fans reciprocated their love by sharing their admiration for the group on social media. One of the users wrote, " To my Home and Solace thank you for being my sunshine in my dark days my rainbows after the rains for bringing out the best version of myself I love you always and forever 🤍 my sebong" Another wrote, " Happy anniversary svt! When things getting hard and difficult you come. Im very grateful to know u seventeen! Lets we walk together for very long time. U give me a lot positive energy. Lets keep being happy"
Another mentioned, " i have seen this phrase circulating around and it might sound cheesy as hell but srsly thank u for my youth seventeen"
In their 8th year, the group earlier teased about releasing two albums, one of which was FML, which was dropped in April. The group is now prepping for another comeback later this year. SEVENTEEN are known as 'self-producing' idols because each member of the team participates in the overall composition, lyric writing and packaging of the albums.
They are also known for the synergy they bring with their stage presence and performances. SEVENTEEN have been given the title of being 'K-pop stage-breakers' for that very reason. SEVENTEEN's 4th studio album Face the Sun marked a new milestone in K-pop, rendering SEVENTEEN the second artist in K-pop history after BTS to surpass the 2 million mark for first-week album sales.
