HARRY POTTER'S TOM FELTON BOARDS HANSAL MEHTA'S GANDHI SERIES; JAMES MURRAY, JONNO DAVIES PART OF INTERNATIONAL CAST​

British actors Tom Felton, James Murray and Jonno Davies are some of the names added to the Gandhi web series. Helmed by Hansal Mehta, the Applause Entertainment series features Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Gandhi. Ahead of the show's shoot in London, England, the director revealed the international talent who would soon be joining them on set. Find out who are the other names joining the cast.

Tom Felton joins Hansal Mehta's Gandhi web series

On social media, Mehta shared the new cast members of Gandhi. He wrote, "We’re in the thick of our shoot. Thrilled to be directing this stellar international cast - Tom Felton, Libby Mai, Molly Wright, Ralph Adeniyi, James Murray, Lindon Alexander, Jonno Davies, Simon Lennon."

Harry Potter's Felton will be playing Gandhi's friend Josiah Oldfield who he met in London. Oldfield was the co-founders of the Vegetarian Society of London and had asked Gandhi to come stay with him in the city. In a statement to Variety, the actor said, “I’m excited to be part of the journey of telling the story of Gandhi’s early years in London. It’s an important aspect of history that hasn’t been told on screen before, and to be working with Hansal and Pratik is an honour and pleasure.”

Other names to the cast include The Crown's James Murray, Jonno Davies, Molly Wright, Simon Lennon, Ralph Adeniyi, Libby Mai and Lindon Alexander. Produced by Applause Entertainment, the series will be filming in London this May.

Showrunner and director Mehta also added, "Working with an exceptionally talented cast has been nothing but a privilege. The casting of some exceptional international actors to our ensemble is even more exciting as we prepare to take our labour of love to audiences worldwide."

About the series Gandhi

Mehta's series is based on the books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi – The Years that Changed the World by Ramachandra Guha. It will follow his time as a young man in India, the UK and South Africa. The writers on Gandhi include Vaibhav Vishal, Karan Vyas, Felix Von Stumm, Hema Gopinath, Sehaj Maini and Yashna Malhotra. Guha is also a script advisor on the series.

The web series is being planned a multi-season drama like The Crown. It will highlight lesser-known parts of Gandhi’s life that led to the development of his political views, which were instrumental in India's fight for freedom against the British empire. The streaming platform for Gandhi has not been announced yet.
