GOOGLE LAYOFFS: TECH GIANT CUTS MORE JOBS AS PART OF RESTRUCTURING

Tech giant Google has cut an unspecified number of jobs as part of its effort to restructure some teams, reported Business Insider.

Teams across Google's finance and real estate units have been affected, said two current employees quoted in the report.

They said the staff were informed about the layoffs this week.

One individual quoted in the report said the finance departments impacted include Google's Treasury, Business Services, and Revenue Cash Operations teams.

At the moment, it remains uncertain whether other divisions within the company are affected or the extent of job reductions.

According to an employee, the changes were "pretty largescale", with certain positions being relocated overseas.

The report also highlighted that Google's finance head, Ruth Porat, circulated an internal email among employees, stating the company's plans to expand its "growth hubs" in cities like Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin as part of the restructuring.

A Google spokesperson said the layoffs are not "company-wide" and that the affected employees will be able to apply for internal roles. However, the spokesperson did not specify the number of employees impacted.

"Throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better, remove layers and align their resources to their biggest product priorities," the spokesperson added.

It may be noted that the layoffs come after a series of job reductions across Google, as well as the broader tech and media sectors this year.

In January, Google released hundreds of employees from various teams, including engineering, hardware, and assistant teams, as it increases investment and expands its artificial intelligence offerings.
