THERE IS A REASON WHY INFLUENCERS KEEP TALKING ABOUT YOUR 5 TO 9 AFTER YOUR 9 TO 5 AT WORK

Instagram seems to be obsessed with our 5 to 9 at home after our 9 to 5 at work. And for good reason too. Health experts emphasise the significance of allocating time and energy not only to one's job but also to other aspects of life, such as family, social relationships, hobbies, and personal health.

Dr Rohan Kumar, consultant psychiatrist, Regency Hospital, explained that having a fulfilling after-work life provides opportunities for relaxation, self-care, and stress reduction, which are vital in combatting stress and burnout from work.

Giving yourself some me-time after work helps individuals develop a more well-rounded and fulfilled identity, Dr Kumar noted.

Well, as much as we may espouse the many benefits of the said work-life balance, it will not be possible unless you implement a few changes in your life, according to Dr Kumar.

Several factors like work demands, blurring of boundaries, and increased screen time due to work or play can hinder this balance. Kumar helped us strategise on how to avoid that.

How to Achieve a Fulfilling After-Work Life

  1. 01

    Balance your schedule

Create a schedule that includes time for work, personal activities, and relaxation. Prioritise tasks to ensure a balance.

  2. 02

    Set boundaries

Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Avoid bringing work-related stress home or allowing it to intrude on personal time.

  3. 03

    Prioritise self-care

Activities such as exercise, meditation, and relaxation techniques are essential for reducing stress and maintaining physical and mental health.

  4. 04

    Interact with loved ones

Allocate time to spend with family and friends. Maintaining healthy relationships is vital for emotional well-being.

  5. 05

    Keep time for your hobbies

Engage in hobbies and interests that bring joy and fulfillment. These activities provide a sense of purpose and can be a source of stress relief.

  6. 06

    Seek support

If work-related stress is overwhelming, consider seeking support from a therapist or counselor. Mental health professionals can provide coping strategies and support for achieving balance.
