EXCLUSIVE! MY CHARACTER IN RASAVATHI LIMPS, SAYS ARJUN DAS

Actor Arjun Das’s popularity might be soaring, but the star seems to have his feet firmly planted on the ground. The actor is admired as much for his deep voice and delightful performances on screen as he is for his courteous behaviour and considerate nature.

After having impressed in a series of films ranging from Karthi’s Kaithi to Kamal Haasan’s Vikram to the more recently released Aneethi and Por, Arjun Das will next be seen playing the lead in Rasavathi, directed by one of Tamil cinema’s most respected filmmakers, Santhakumar of Mounaguru and Magamuni fame.

On His Role In Rasavathi

Ask Arjun Das about the character he plays in the film and the efforts he put in to prepare himself for the role and he says, “Santhakumar sir wanted me to grow my hair and beard for this role. He wanted a lot of stuttering. There was a certain limp in the film. I can’t reveal much about it but the character limps. There’s a little bit of homework that we have done on that.”

He goes on to disclose more details about his role. Says the actor, “I play a Siddha doctor. He (Santha Kumar) had one of his friends who is a Siddha doctor help us. He showed us how it was done. Working with Shanthakumar sir is a dream because I am a big fan of Mounaguru. When you have someone like Shanthakumar sir calling you personally and saying I have a story for you, you feel delighted. He is not very easily accessible. He is in his own world and finally to have shot this film, it’s been a wonderful journey.”

Just a few days ago, the unit of the film released its official trailer which evoked a phenomenal response from audiences. In fact, the trailer seems to have caught the attention of audiences. One defining aspect of the trailer that was released was that it ended with a dialogue on what courage actually was. Interestingly, the dialogue on courage looked like a straight rebuttal to Kamal Haasan’s dialogue in Kuruthi Punal on the same topic.

In Kuruthi Punal, Kamal defines courage as the act of pretending not to be scared. In this trailer, the hero is seen saying, “Have those in your home taught you that courage is pretending not to be scared? Well, in my home, I have been taught that courage is dying in a fight. Let’s see, come on.

Ask Arjun Das if it was indeed a rebuttal to Kamal’s Kuruthi Punal dialogue and he says, “That is just something that Shantha sir wrote and we didn’t think about it at all. It was part of the script.
