In celebration of their 50th anniversary, "Gallup Korea" unveiled the results of their iconic "50 Things Koreans Like" survey. Conducted between March 22 and April 5, 2024, the survey captured the preferences of 1,777 individuals aged 13 and older from across South Korea.

This year, BTS secured the 3rd spot among favorite singers, with Kim Taehyung, also known as V, tying for 5th place with singer BIBI among female teenagers aged 13 to 18, despite his current military service. Remarkably, V stands out as the only male idol to rank both as a solo artist and a member of a group.

About V

Kim Taehyung, or V, is a multifaceted South Korean artist and a key member of BTS. Since their debut in 2013, V has released three solo tracks with the band: "Stigma" (2016), "Singularity" (2018), and "Inner Child" (2020), each making its mark on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.

Beyond BTS, V ventured into acting with a role in the 2016 TV series Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, and contributed the song "It's Definitely You" to its soundtrack. In 2019, he debuted his self-composed solo track "Scenery". V officially stepped into his solo career with the singles "Love Me Again" and "Rainy Days" in 2023, followed by his debut solo album Layover, released on September 8, featuring the single "Slow Dancing".

Pre-debut, V was known as BTS’s "secret member," kept under wraps to surprise fans. This secrecy caused him unease, as he feared it might mean exclusion from the group. However, he made his debut with BTS on June 13, 2013, performing "No More Dream" on Mnet's M Countdown from their debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool.

V’s creative contributions to BTS are noteworthy. He co-wrote and produced "Hold Me Tight" from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 (2015) and contributed to the melody of "Run" on The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2. His solo track "Stigma" on the 2016 album Wings showcased his compositional skills. Additionally, he has unofficially released covers like "Hug Me" with J-Hope and Adele's "Someone Like You".

In May 2018, V's "Singularity" served as a trailer for BTS's album Love Yourself: Tear. The song received significant acclaim, debuting on BBC Radio and earning spots on multiple year-end lists, including The New York Times' "The 65 Best Songs of 2018" and The Guardian's "Top 50 songs for June 2018". Critics from Billboard, Los Angeles Times, and The Guardian praised the track, cementing V’s reputation as a distinguished artist.
