Body shaming is a harsh reality and people have been facing this specific kind of shame since time immemorial. Recently, during one of her promotional interviews for The Broken News Season 2, which released on May 3, Sonali Bendre spoke about being body-shamed in the 90s by her producers. They wanted her to have a different body type, because the beauty standards back then, were different.
Sonali Bendre On Producers Trying To Fatten Her Up
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Sonali said, “When I came in the industry, heroines didn’t used to be this skinny. Every producer was trying to fatten me up all the time. They would just tell me to ‘eat eat eat bahut patli hai (she is too thin).’ They wanted curves. At that time, they wanted women who were curvaceous and voluptuous and who had curls in their hair. Back in 2022, in another interview, with Bollywood Bubble, Sonali spoke about how body shaming is deeply ingrained in our society. She emphasised that although society may have established standards for what is good-looking, you still need to feel good about yourself. She said, “I do agree body shaming should not have any part in our society and especially little girls and the kind of ideas they are growing with and the crazy dieting people are doing. People are forgetting that it is not holistic.”On The Work Front
