Singer KK, who passed away last year on May 31, 2022, lent his voice to some of the most romantic melodies that are popular to this day. His songs like 'Dil Kyun Ye Mera', 'Yaaron', 'Pal', 'Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai' and 'O Meri Jaan', among others touch the heartstrings of many music lovers even today. A look back at his love story with his wife Jyothy Krishna shows how the singer managed to bring so much love and emotion to his voice while crooning the romantic ballads.

During his appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, KK had revealed he and his wife Jyothy were childhood sweethearts. He had met Jyothi in class 6 and proposed to her when they were in 10th standard. Talking about the same, he told Kapil, "Ek connection ho jaata hai, Kapil. Isliye toh maine vo gaana banaya, Yaaron Dosti, Dosti se shuruat hoti hai phir mohabbat ho jaati hai... (You build a connection, Kapil. That is why I sang the song 'Yaaron Dosti'. It all starts with friendship and turns into love)."

KK, in one of his interviews with Aaj Tak, had also shared that he sang "Pyaar Deewana Hota Hai" for Jyothy at his colony's annual function, where both of their parents were present. He said, "I remember singing the song during our colony's annual function for her." But while singing it, the singer avoided looking at his ladylove and just stole a few glances with her as he was being careful about the parents being there too.

Uss time mummy papa bhi baithe hote the, toh aise direct bhi nahi ho sakte the, toh beech beech mein teen chaar baar steal kar liya gaate gaate (At that time our parents also used to be there, so I couldn’t be so direct. So, I used to steal glances while singing)," the singer said.

KK proposed marriage to Jyothy in 10th standard and never felt it was too soon for him to do that. He believed when you feel strongly about something, "just say it.” After proposing to Jyothy, KK needed to find a job in order to convince her parents. That is when he found a job in marketing.

He shared about the same in a Movie Talkies interview where he said, “Job karni zaroori thi, nahi toh main agar bolta ki main gaata hun, toh vo bolte gaata toh main bhi hun, kaam kya karte ho? (It was necessary for me to take up a job else they would have asked me what I do, and they would have ignored me if I said I sing)”.

KK and Jyothy finally got married in 1991. And, it was Jyothy who motivated and pushed her husband to move to Mumbai to build a career as a singer. KK was earlier making a living by making jingles in Delhi.

"In Delhi I was doing jingles, producing, had a band, was performing. It was not a very firm thing. At that time, I used to feel nothing is permanent. So, Jyothi used to tell me, 'I think you should go to Bombay, you should try your luck there. What will you achieve here?'" KK told Bollywood Hungama once.

Had Jyothy not convinced her singer-husband, KK would not have mustered the courage to move to Mumbai. KK recalled in an interview with Sony Music India, "She made me take the decision which on my own I would not have taken. She helped me get out of a certain state of mind. She continues to do that even now. It worked well for me that I got married before I settled down, and she helped me in settling down." KK moved to Mumbai in 1994 when Jyothy was pregnant with their first child.

After his sudden demise last year, Jyothi has been heartbroken. On KK's birth anniversary in August last year, she had shared an adorable picture of herself with the singer and had written in the caption, "Happy Birthday Sweetheart. Love you, miss you sooo much, it hurts.”
